Tenafly Nature Center’s Sweet New Activity: Maple Sugaring

“Tenafly Nature Center is a non-profit, independent, member-supported nature preserve located in Bergen County, New Jersey. Since 1961, TNC has nurtured an appreciation for nature, been a leader in open-space preservation and environmental education for our community and beyond.” Tenafly Nature Center

Tenafly’s lovely nature reserve is a great space to reconnect with nature and disconnect from our technology-heavy lives. The Tenafly Nature Center is always coming up with creative and exciting new activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy and learn from.

Maple sugaring, their newest activity, takes advantage of their abundant and beautiful maple trees. This short and sweet event has a nature expert guide lead a small group into the Maple tree area of the reserve and teaches everything from how to identify a maple tree, to the history of maple syrup, to the evolution of syrup harvesting technology. Then the tour will continue to a tapped maple tree where the group will observe how sap is boiled down to make fresh maple syrup. Talk about a sweet day!

All ages are welcome to the event, but an adult must accompany any children.

The program will take place entirely outdoors, space is limited and pre-registration is required.

For COVID-19 safety, masks are required when social distancing cannot be maintained. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
